3、
When iOS 8.1 was released last month it took away the "Date Trick" that allowed you to run emulators such as GBA4iOS on your iOS phone or tablet.

By rolling back the date on your iOS device far enough, you could install apps that Apple hadn't approved, such as these emulators. That's what iOS 8.1 disallows.

Despite that, iOS developer and GBA4iOS creator Riley Testut has found a way to get GBA4iOS running on iOS 8.1 anyway, and still without jailbreak.

So, even with the latest iOS update, you can play Game Boy games on your iOS phone or tablet. Cheeky.

You can install the open beta it right now by grabbing it on iEmulators. It should soon be up on GBA4iOSapp.com and Cydia, too.

Testut already released the GBA4iOS source so you can compile it yourself and never lose it.

The 2.1 version of GBA4iOS also comes with a new feature: multiplayer. It lets you trade items in certain games with other players.

Obviously, we think this is all very naughty, and that Santa Claus shouldn't give you presents if you do install it.
Cult of Mac

1、
This week's new Apple Arcade release is an interesting little game called The Lullaby of Life that aims to lift its players' spirits in novel ways.

Hailing from developer 1 Simple Game, based in Jalisco, Mexico, this one's perhaps best described as a music-driven puzzle adventure where you'll work to re-energise a long-dormant universe.

You play as BomBo, a strange creature whose small tunes can light up the world around him, returning music, colour, and life to his surroundings by precisely timing his musical notes. It sounds and looks very pleasant, and I'm quite excited to try it myself when it arrives on Apple Arcade later today.

Beyond a Steel Sky, Creaks, and Necrobarista are certainly hard acts to follow, but The Lullaby of Life seems so completely different to any of those that comparisons aren't at all fair. Still, Apple Arcade has been on a wonderful roll recently, so it'd be great to see The Lullaby of Life continue that upwards trend.

You'll find it available for download later today from the App Store, though given the fact that it's an Apple Arcade release, you'll of course need an active subscription to play. That'll set you back $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year.

I'm curious to see when Apple's change of direction for the service will become apparent in its (almost) weekly games. The last several releases have all been narrative-driven games that don't necessarily lend themselves well to the high-retention models and regular updates of, say, Grindstone or Sneaky Sasquatch.
Searching for more top-quality puzzle games? Here are 25 of the very best for iPhone & iPad
Gold Award-winning Metroidvania platformer Traps n' Gemstones is dirt cheap on the App Store right now, so you've got no excuse not to give it a crack.

The game sees you leading an Indiana Jones-style adventurer through a series of puzzling platform levels. There are relics to find, and new bits of equipment to nab that unlock previously inaccessible areas of the pyramid you're exploring.

At review we called it "an ambitious yet inviting freeform platform-adventure that strikes the perfect balance between depth and accessibility." Which sounds pretty damn good to me.

If any of that has tickled your fancy, you can head over to the App Store right this second and pick up Traps n' Gemstones for just 79p / 99c [buy].

2、
A follow up to 2017’s Earth Atlantis has been announced on the 3rd anniversary of its release.

Pixel Perfex has announced that Earth Atlantis 2, the sequel to the original side-scrolling shooter, is in early development.

It’s set in a world where “The Great Climate Shift" struck at end of the 21st century, putting 96% of the earth’s surface underwater. With humanity fallen, machines have adopted the shape and form of marine animals and the ocean is full of these creature-machine hybrid monsters. A new adventure awaits you on this perilous new world.

Earth Atlantis 2 presents a brand-new visual style for the series, with new gameplay mechanics and updated graphics. Players journey into a stunning post-apocalyptic underwater world and hunt down these vicious sea monsters. You can see the first screenshot below.

Originally released in 2017, Earth Atlantis was presented in a unique and artistic “Old Sketching” visual style, expressing the spirit of the 14th century’s ocean exploration when the sea was considered an unsafe place full of monsters. It was nominated by IGN the best action game of the year, and won several indie games awards including the “Grand Jury” award at BitSummit 2017 in Japan.

Pixel Perfex is an award-winning indie games studio with the goal to develop unique and innovative games. Titles in its previous catalogue include Earth Atlantis, Xenon Shooter, Energy Panic and KRUT: The Mythic Wings.

As well as on iOS, Earth Atlantis launched on PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Although the platforms for the sequel are currently unconfirmed, it’s likely we may see this one also drop on iOS and Android considering its increase in popularity. You can follow along for more development updates at Pixel Perfex’s website.
Want to read about more platformers available to play on iPhone and iPad?
